THE RICHNESS OF THE TORAH

In order to grasp the basic meaning of the concept "Torah", we need to study the meaning of the root of this word, which is "yarah". This is how Strong’s define the word "yarah": A primitive root; properly to flow as water (that is, to rain); transitively to lay or throw (especially an arrow, that is, to shoot); figuratively to point out (as if by aiming the finger), to teach: - (+) archer, cast, direct, inform, instruct, lay, show, shoot, teach (-er, -ing), through.

1. Teaching us what to speak

Exo 4:11 Yahweh said to him, "Who made man's mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isn't it I, Yahweh?

Exo 4:12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach [yarah] you what you shall speak."

2. Showing us what to do

Exo 15:24 The people murmured against Mosheh, saying, "What shall we drink?"

Exo 15:25 Then he cried to Yahweh. Yahweh showed [yarah] him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them;

Exo 15:26 and he said, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim, and will do that which is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you, which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you."

Exo 15:27 They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

3. Laying the corner stone in our lives

Job 38:3 Brace yourself like a man, For I will question you, then you answer me!

Job 38:4 "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.

Job 38:5 Who determined the measures of it, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?

Job 38:6 Whereupon were the foundations of it fastened? Or who laid [yarah] its cornerstone?

4. Instructing both sinners and those who fear Yahweh

Psa 25:4 Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths.

Psa 25:5 Guide me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the Elohim of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

Psa 25:8 Good and upright is Yahweh, therefore he will instruct [yarah] sinners in the way.

Psa 25:9 He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

Psa 25:10 All the paths of Yahweh are loving kindness and truth to such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Psa 25:12 What man is he who fears Yahweh? He shall instruct [yarah] him in the way that he shall choose.

5. Shooting down our enemies and adversaries

Psa 64:1 Hear my voice, Elohim, in my complaint. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

Psa 64:2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil;

Psa 64:3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words,

Psa 64:4 To shoot [yarah] innocent men from ambushes. They shoot [yarah] at him suddenly and fearlessly.

Psa 64:5 They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?"

Psa 64:6 They plot injustice, saying, "We have made a perfect plan!" Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

Psa 64:7 But Elohim will shoot [yarah] at them. They will be suddenly struck down with an arrow.

Psa 64:8 Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads.

Psa 64:9 All mankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of Elohim, and shall wisely ponder what he has done.

Psa 64:10 The righteous shall be glad in Yahweh, and shall take refuge in him. All the upright in heart shall praise him!

6. Preparing us for the latter days

Isa 2:2 It shall happen in the latter days, that the mountain of Yahweh's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.

Isa 2:3 Many peoples shall go and say, "Come, let's go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house of the Elohim of Ya’akov; and he will teach [yarah] us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths. For out of Tsion the law shall go forth, and the word of Yahweh from Yerushalayim.

7. Drenching us in his righteousness

Hos 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Yahweh, until he comes and rains [yarah] righteousness on you.

Today, we should heed the words of the prophet Hoshea: "I wrote for him (that is: for Ephrayim – representative of those from the gentile nations whom Yahweh had called to Himself ) the many things of my torah; but they were regarded as a strange thing" (Hosh 8:12) and also the words of the prophet YeshaYahu, written with regards to the end time: "It pleased Yahweh, for his righteousness' sake, to magnify the torah, and make it honorable" (Yesh 42:21).
